The Phantom of the Opera
The Palais Garnier is the famous setting for Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel, "The Phantom of the Opera." The story was inspired by the building's complex, maze-like interiors and the real underground "lake"—a large water tank built to manage groundwater pressure. While the Phantom's tale is fictional, a guided tour will show you the box (Box 5) reserved for him and immerse you in the legends that have made the opera house world-famous.
